SEOUL, Sept 1 (Reuters) \u2013 North Korea and the United States are showing signs of resuming dialogue, a South Korean lawmaker said on Tuesday after being \u200bbriefed by Seoul\u2019s intelligence agency.<\/p>\n
There had, however, \u200cbeen no confirmation of specific contacts between Pyongyang and Washington, he told a televised briefing.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding a North Korea-U.S. summit, there was an assessment that talks could be possible at anytime,\u201d lawmaker Youn Kun-young \u200ctold \u200breporters.<\/p>\n
U.S. President Donald Trump said \u2060last month he planned to \u2060meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this year after he ordered a major scaling back of annual military exercises between the United States \u200band South Korea.The two met three times in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n
Youn also told reporters that Seoul\u2019s National \u2060Intelligence Service (NIS) believed that North Korea \u2060was continuing to take steps to position \u200bKim Jong Un\u2019s daughter, known as Ju Ae, as his \u200bsuccessor.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reason why she is showing up in \u200cthe state media frequently is she is seen as being in the process of being appointed as successor,\u201d the lawmaker said.<\/p>\n
The NIS assessed there was a \u201cvery low possibility\u201d \u2060currently that Pyongyang would deploy additional troops to Ukraine, he said.<\/p>\n
North Korea\u2019s Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong \u2060Un, has denied \u200cUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy\u2019s claim that Pyongyang \u2060planned to send up to 50,000 more \u200btroops \u200cto Russia to fight for its ally.<\/p>\n
The \u200bNIS had \u2060also obtained a blueprint of a North Korean missile as well as an internal document on Pyongyang\u2019s ruling party, Yoo Yeong-ha, another lawmaker briefed by the NIS, told reporters without elaborating.<\/p>\n
