Instead of operating televisions as standalone devices, the new platform is designed to connect entertainment, hotel content and selected room functions through a common technology layer.

LG will provide cloud platform development, smart-device integration, device management and technical support, while Marriott will bring its expertise in guest experience, hotel operations and enterprise technology requirements.

“Through our strategic collaboration with Marriott, LG is expanding the role of the hotel TV beyond entertainment to become a central platform that connects guests with personalized content and services while helping hotel operators manage their properties more efficiently,” said Nicolas Min, head of the Information Display Business at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company.

The move comes as hotels increasingly look at technology not only to improve the guest experience but also to reduce the operational burden associated with managing thousands of connected devices across properties.

For hotel operators, one of the more significant changes is the introduction of centralised monitoring. Marriott teams will be able to track the health, performance and status of guest-room televisions across individual rooms, properties, brands, groups of hotels and the wider portfolio.

That means technology teams can potentially identify device problems remotely, push content and application updates centrally and gain greater visibility into the performance of in-room systems without relying as heavily on property-level intervention.

Marriott said the platform is being shaped around three requirements — guest experience, property operations and enterprise integration.

“Our collaboration with LG reflects Marriott’s commitment to building technology that elevates the guest experience across our portfolio,” said Drew Pinto, executive vice president and chief revenue and technology officer at Marriott International.

“By combining LG’s connected-device capabilities with Marriott’s hospitality expertise and enterprise platform, we are creating a more seamless, personalized guest room experience while helping hotel teams operate more efficiently,” Pinto added.

The technology is also designed to reduce reliance on traditional on-premises video distribution infrastructure. LG smart hotel TVs and set-top boxes can be authenticated and managed through the cloud platform, creating a more centralised approach to managing in-room technology.

For guests, the most visible component will remain the television screen. But the proposition is intended to make that screen a gateway to a broader digital experience, bringing together linear television, streaming services, hotel information and other connected services within a single interface.

The entertainment system will support linear TV, streaming and FAST channels, with more than 40 OTT applications and 250 channels. It will also support personalised advertising through LG Channels and client-side ad insertion capabilities.

The commercial implications are significant as well. By creating a connected digital interface inside the room, hotels gain another channel through which they can deliver content and potentially generate advertising revenue, while maintaining greater control over how that content is managed across properties.

The bigger change, however, lies behind the screen.

Hotels operate large numbers of televisions, set-top boxes and other connected devices across geographically dispersed properties. Managing those devices individually can create maintenance costs, delays and inconsistencies in the guest experience. A cloud-based management layer gives hotel technology teams a central point from which to monitor and update devices.

LG and Marriott are therefore positioning the partnership as more than an upgraded hotel-TV proposition. It is an attempt to create a common technology ecosystem that can eventually extend beyond guest rooms.

As the collaboration develops, the companies plan to explore connected digital experiences and centralised technology management in public and shared hotel spaces as well.

The initial 40-hotel pilot in the US and Canada will provide the first test of whether the platform can deliver those operational and guest-experience benefits at property level.

For Marriott, the initiative also offers a way to standardise aspects of the digital guest-room experience across a large and diverse hotel portfolio. For LG, it expands the role of its hospitality display technology into cloud services, connected-device management and hotel operations.

The partnership reflects a broader shift underway in hospitality technology: the hotel room is increasingly being treated as a connected digital environment rather than a collection of independent devices.

And in that environment, the television could become much more than a screen on the wall. It could become the interface through which the guest interacts with the hotel — and the platform through which the hotel manages the room.

New cloud-based platform to integrate in-room entertainment, device management and hotel operations; 40-property pilot underway in US and…

[25
14979,315,314,71166,24380,71828
post-141315","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-lg","tag-build","tag-lg","tag-lg-group","tag-marriott","tag-partner","tag-smarter-hotel-rooms
["GET
