SEOUL, Sept 3 (Reuters) \u2013 Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) has proposed Samsung Electronics pay 20 trillion won ($15 billion) \u200bin advance for power through to \u200c2031 to help fund the expansion of its grid, the Chosun Ilbo reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n
It has also proposed that SK Hynix pay \u200c5 \u200btrillion won in \u2060advance, the newspaper said, \u2060citing an internal KEPCO document.<\/p>\n
Here are some details:<\/p>\n
\u2022 State-run KEPCO, South Korea\u2019s main utility, said in a statement \u200bit had suggested an advance payment scheme to major power users including \u2060Samsung and SK Hynix, \u2060but that participation, interest rates, \u200bpayment amounts and payment periods had not \u200bbeen finalised.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Samsung and SK Hynix \u200cdeclined to comment.<\/p>\n
\u2022 KEPCO said the proposed arrangement was intended to help meet rising investment needs from semiconductor and \u2060AI data centre projects, while providing companies with more certainty over timely power supply for \u2060new \u200cfactories.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The utility would use \u2060the funds to build transmission \u200band \u200csubstation networks for chip fabs, \u200bwhile paying \u2060the companies interest above the yield on 2-year Korean government bonds, according to the Chosun report.<\/p>\n
