Depending on whether the listing — which could value the AI model developer at up to $2 trillion — succeeds or flops, the direction of AI investment flows, as well as market judgment on AI capital expenditure and semiconductor demand, could shift significantly.

Anthropic is reportedly planning to pursue its IPO between September and October. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs are cited as the lead underwriters, with JPMorgan, Citigroup, and Barclays also potentially playing key roles. The expected valuation is up to $2 trillion, with an offering size of around $100 billion. If those projections materialize, Anthropic would instantly join the ranks of the world’s most valuable companies.

Anthropic’s recent annualized recurring revenue (ARR) has reportedly surpassed $65 billion. Applying a $2 trillion valuation would put its price-to-sales ratio (PSR) at roughly 30 times. That is not an especially low valuation, but given that high-growth AI companies such as Palantir, Nebius, and Astera Labs are commanding rich revenue multiples, the key question is how far the market will be willing to price the stock after listing.

With a string of mega-IPOs recently and a surge in corporate bond issuance aimed at AI investment, attention is focused on shifting funding conditions. If market liquidity proves insufficient, capital could drain from existing equities and flow into Anthropic’s offering.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, in particular, have long served as the go-to proxies for indirect exposure to AI growth. The two companies are leading suppliers of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and server DRAM needed for AI data centers, and have been viewed as direct beneficiaries of expanding AI investment. But once Anthropic enters the public market, investors will have a new option: investing directly in a frontier AI model company. For investors bullish on AI’s growth trajectory, this means gaining exposure to the AI model layer itself without going through the semiconductor supply chain.

Kim Min-kyu, an analyst at KB Securities, said: “Regardless of whether Anthropic’s IPO is a hit, South Korean investor flows are highly likely to gravitate toward Anthropic.” He pointed to the earlier SpaceX IPO, when South Korean investors flooded in even as the won-dollar exchange rate reached ₩1,550 per dollar (approximately $1.1).

On the flip side, if the IPO fails to generate enthusiasm, the bigger issue may not be supply-demand dynamics but rather doubts about AI industry valuations and the sustainability of investment across the board. If the market refuses to accept the valuation of a company growing as fast as Anthropic, it could be interpreted as a signal that the bar for growth and profitability demanded of AI companies has been raised.

In that scenario, skepticism about the profitability of frontier AI companies could spread through cloud and data center layers into downstream industries such as HBM and server DRAM. If debate intensifies over whether AI companies can continue to sustain massive capital expenditures, investor sentiment toward South Korean semiconductor stocks could also take a hit.

Given the heavy weighting of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in the South Korean stock market, the outcome of Anthropic’s IPO could affect KOSPI supply-demand dynamics beyond individual names. That said, some analysts note that the recent correction in semiconductor stocks has partially eased valuation pressure, limiting the likelihood that an IPO disappointment alone would push share prices significantly below prior lows.

Ultimately, the market views Anthropic’s listing as a litmus test for investor judgment on the AI industry. If it succeeds, South Korean chip stocks may have to absorb the possibility of funds rotating into AI model companies; if it stumbles, they may bear the brunt of skepticism about the broader AI investment cycle.

Meanwhile, amid “peak-out” concerns that the semiconductor cycle has topped out following the recent pullback in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares, some analysts argue that AI demand has yet to truly take off. Seong Sang-hyun, deputy head of the investment strategy division at the Korea Federation of SMEs, said in a YouTube appearance on the 3rd: “I see this not as a situation where we’ve hit the top and are heading down, but rather one that is bumpy but can continue to climb.”

He argued that past semiconductor cycles and the current AI-driven demand cycle should be viewed separately. In the past, consumer demand for PCs and smartphones drove the cycle, but now data centers and large-scale capital expenditure (CAPEX) are leading the market. “I believe AI demand hasn’t even started yet,” he said, adding that if operating profit remains solid next year, the current valuation of around 5 times would be low.

He also flagged the potential for demand to expand into AI agents and humanoid robots. “We haven’t even transitioned to B2C yet,” he said, arguing it is premature to call a peak in AI demand at this stage. He assessed that the current phase is less about AI applications generating meaningful profits and more about laying infrastructure and ramping up investment.

On timing, he advised caution when market forecasts converge in one direction. “The real danger is when everyone is looking the same way,” he said, adding that in the current environment of divided outlooks, “I think buying is better than selling.”

Anthropic’s initial public offering is emerging as a new wildcard for investors in South Korean semiconductor stocks such…

[18
9651,3166,466,28423,41611,3535,127,276,73147,275,25678
post-144139","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-samsung-electronics","tag-anthropic","tag-goldman-sachs","tag-kb-securities","tag-kim-min-kyu","tag-korea-federation-of-smes","tag-morgan-stanley","tag-samsung","tag-samsung-electronics","tag-seong-sang-hyun","tag-sk-hynix","tag-spacex
["GET
