Hanwha Investment & Securities (003530) has built a token securities platform based on the Avalanche blockchain, moving ahead of much of the industry. The Korea Securities Depository is also developing token securities infrastructure capable of linking with Avalanche, a sign that technology demand from private financial firms is being reflected in regulated market infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Hanwha Investment & Securities began work on the platform last year and has since completed it, according to blockchain industry sources on the 6th. The platform was developed by blockchain technology firm FairSquare Lab. It was designed to run on multiple networks, including Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu, an enterprise blockchain.<\/p>\n

Token securities are securities such as stocks and bonds \u2014 as defined under the Capital Markets Act \u2014 that are digitized by being recorded on a blockchain, or distributed ledger. Multiple institutions participate in the same network and jointly manage rights information, including the issuance and transfer of securities.<\/p>\n

Some financial firms, such as Mirae Asset Securities (006800), have already applied enterprise blockchains like Hyperledger Besu to their token securities systems. Hanwha Investment & Securities went further by also adopting Avalanche, which has a public blockchain ecosystem open to any participant. Avalanche allows users to set up separate, independent networks and restrict participants and validators, making it usable as a dedicated network for financial institutions.<\/p>\n

The depository is likewise preparing token securities infrastructure that can connect with multiple blockchain technologies. According to its published guidelines on standard requirements for token securities distributed ledgers, the depository is building a token securities platform capable of linking with Hyperledger Besu, Hyperledger Fabric and Avalanche. Participation in the token securities distributed ledger is limited to electronic registration institutions and account management institutions, such as the depository and brokerage firms. The depository takes part directly in each distributed ledger to manage total issuance volumes and electronic registration data.<\/p>\n

Market demand was behind the decision to include Avalanche among the linkable technologies. An official at the depository said the choice was not made pre-emptively by the organization, but came after requests from a number of companies through the token securities consultative body and other existing projects.<\/p>\n

The depository’s support is not limited to those three technologies. If a business seeks to adopt a new distributed ledger technology, technical support and platform connection are possible after prior consultation with the depository.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Hanwha Investment & Securities.
