The recipient is Kia’s (000270) Autoland Hwaseong plant, with deployment scheduled to begin in May next year.

The company announced the plan on the 7th, explaining that the autonomous forklift can navigate the factory floor on its own and perform the entire process of loading and unloading cargo onto pallets. This is the first application of a fully unmanned forklift at a factory in South Korea.

The autonomous forklift being supplied can carry up to 4 tons of cargo, comparable to the maximum load capacity of mid-size forklifts most commonly used at manufacturing sites. Its top speed is capped at 6.5 kilometers per hour to comply with in-plant safety standards.

Hyundai Wia developed the autonomous forklift based on its mass-production experience with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). Equipped with LiDAR sensors, vision sensors, and safety scanners, the forklift navigates the factory interior while loading cargo. In particular, vision sensors enable precise recognition of pallet positions, while safety scanners mounted on all four sides of the vehicle halt operations immediately upon detecting hazards.

Digital Twin technology has also been applied. A virtual replica of the actual factory environment was created to train the autonomous forklift to generate optimal travel routes on its own. An ICP (Iterative Closest Point) algorithm was added to ensure accurate recognition even when pallets deviate slightly from their target positions.

Hyundai Wia plans to use this autonomous forklift supply deal as a springboard to expand its industrial robot lineup. The company intends to build a total mobile robot solution encompassing its already-commercialized AMRs and parking robots, and to accelerate its entry into the global market.

A Hyundai Wia official said, “With the supply of autonomous forklifts, we have been able to further diversify our lineup of industrial robots used at manufacturing sites,” adding, “We will innovate global manufacturing sites through the H-Motion robot, our industrial mobile robot.”

Hyundai Wia, an auto parts affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, has recently identified mobility and robotics as future growth engines. The autonomous forklift supply deal is seen as part of its strategy to transition from a parts manufacturing-centric business structure to a robotics solutions company.

The global logistics automation market is expanding rapidly due to e-commerce growth, rising labor costs, and workforce shortages. Autonomous forklifts represent a segment with increasing demand across both warehouses and manufacturing sites, and Hyundai Wia’s securing of the first domestic supply case in South Korea is expected to give the company a competitive edge in future overseas order competitions.

Hyundai Wia (011210) will supply a fully autonomous forklift capable of driverless loading and unloading to an actual…

[24
73755,4740,8586,73756,295,294,293,10060,703,73754,58683
post-145421","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-hyundai","tag-autonomous-forklift","tag-autonomous-mobile-robot","tag-digital-twin","tag-h-motion","tag-hyundai","tag-hyundai-group","tag-hyundai-motor-group","tag-hyundai-wia","tag-kia","tag-kia-autoland-hwaseong","tag-parking-robot
["GET
