News1<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Samsung Electronics has launched an internal investigation into allegations that some employees at its Pyeongtaek complex improperly claimed housing subsidies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Posts on an anonymous workplace community site alleged that some employees in Samsung Electronics&#8217; Device Solutions division submitted lease contracts that misstated their actual rental terms in order to receive monthly housing support of up to 700,000 won, industry sources said on the 8th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The Device Solutions division provides partial housing support to junior employees at the Pyeongtaek complex who meet certain requirements. The program is designed to ease the burden on workers who live too far to commute or who must secure separate housing near the plant to work shifts. Eligible housing is limited to units meeting set standards, such as studio apartments smaller than about 33 square meters or one-and-a-half-room units, with support reportedly capped at 700,000 won a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Some employees, however, are alleged to have lived in larger units or two-room apartments while reporting smaller floor areas to the company or submitting contracts describing the units as studios. Others were accused of including maintenance fees in their reported monthly rent to increase the subsidy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Employees have called for strict measures, including clawbacks of the payments and disciplinary action, if the improper claims are confirmed, according to accounts within the company. The company is also said to be requesting additional official documents, such as building registers, from some employees. Samsung Electronics has acknowledged the allegations and opened an internal investigation to establish the facts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The allegations have drawn heightened attention because they coincide with expectations of large performance-based bonuses at the Device Solutions division. Under Samsung Electronics&#8217; bonus agreement, the company will pay out 10.5% of business performance as bonuses over the next 10 years with no upper limit. Combined with existing incentives, the total pool will reach 12% of business performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">As a result, Device Solutions employees are expected to receive bonuses of up to 600 million won each.
