The historic investment was made possible in part by the CHIPS and Science Act, landmark legislation Senator Young helped author and pass to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing and bring high-tech investment and jobs back to the United States, according to information provided.

The investment will establish SK hynix’s first U.S. advanced packaging facility for next-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a critical technology used to power artificial intelligence. SK hynix expects the project to create approximately 7,000 direct and indirect jobs through construction, operations, partner companies, and related industries.

“SK hynix’s historic investment in West Lafayette is further proof that Indiana is leading the way in rebuilding America’s semiconductor industry,” said Senator Young. “This project will create good-paying jobs, strengthen our national and economic security, and ensure the technologies of the future are developed and manufactured here in the United States. I was proud to help make this investment possible through the CHIPS and Science Act, and I look forward to seeing the impact it will have on Hoosiers and our country for decades to come.”

SK hynix also announced a research and development partnership with Purdue University focused on advanced packaging technologies. More than 150 materials, components, and equipment partners are discussing participation in the local supply chain, further strengthening Indiana’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.

Senator Young was instrumental in the passage of the CHIPS and Science Act, which was signed into law in 2022. The law provides incentives to bring semiconductor manufacturing and research to the United States, strengthen domestic supply chains, and bolster America’s economic and national security.

The U.S. Department of Commerce awarded SK hynix up to $458 million in direct funding through the CHIPS and Science Act to support the West Lafayette project along with up to $500 million in federal loans.

WASHINGTON – On Aug. 27, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) delivered remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for SK…

[23
74861,27808,74862,10881,39806,958,642,1136,241,240,275
post-147415","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sk","tag-advanced-packaging-semiconductors","tag-chips-and-science-act","tag-computer-engineering","tag-electronics-industry","tag-indiana","tag-investment","tag-semiconductor","tag-semiconductors","tag-sk","tag-sk-group","tag-sk-hynix
["GET
