The Korea Society, a South Korea-U.S. friendship group, announced on the 13th (local time) that it has selected Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang as the winner of this year’s Van Fleet Award. The awards ceremony, attended by Jensen Huang in person, will be held with an annual dinner in New York on September 28.<\/p>\n

The Korea Society explained that he was recognized for his pioneering leadership in the artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor industries, which are at the heart of the Korea-U.S. economic cooperation relationship, and for expanding partnerships with Korean innovators such as Samsung Electronics and SK Group.<\/p>\n

“Jensen Huang has already swept all awards in the U.S. in technology and AI, but he has never received an award by the Korean community,” said Abraham Kim, chairman of Korea Society. “NVIDIA and Korean companies are creating a future for the global technology environment together.”<\/p>\n

Last year, Jensen Hwang visited Korea and caused a big buzz with his “Chimaekhoedong” at the Kkanbu Chicken store with Samsung Group Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun. It is known that the Korea Society had Jensen Huang in mind as the winner shortly after the chicken and beer meeting.<\/p>\n

Chairman Kim stressed, “The cooperation of these companies will lead to next-generation technological innovation and further strengthen cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. for generations to come.”<\/p>\n

The Van Fleet Award was established in 1992 to honor General James Van Fleet, who founded the Korea Society in 1957 after participating in the Korean War as the commander of the Eighth U.S. Army. Every year, people who contributed to strengthening the Korea-U.S. relationship are selected and awarded.<\/p>\n

Previous winners include former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and George Bush, GM Chairman Mary Barra, former President Kim Dae Jung, former Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee, Hyundai Motor Group Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo, and BTS.
