Jan. 21 (Asia Today) — Hanwha Ocean said Wednesday it has appointed former Canadian Navy officer and Lockheed Martin Canada executive Glenn Copeland to lead its local effort to win Canada’s patrol submarine program, valued at about 60 trillion won (about $46 billion).<\/p>\n
The company said Copeland will serve as its Canada branch manager, based in Ottawa, as Hanwha Ocean positions itself for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Program.\n<\/p>\n
Hanwha Ocean said Copeland served 22 years in the Canadian Navy, including roles such as operational tactics officer and frigate executive officer, and retired as a lieutenant colonel.<\/p>\n
It said he later worked at Lockheed Martin Canada as project lead for the Halifax-class frigate modernization program, overseeing areas including finance, engineering processes and software development. The company said he also has experience in business development and exporting a combat management system known as CMS-330.<\/p>\n
Hanwha Ocean said Copeland previously served as chairman of the Nova Scotia Regional Defence Industry Association and built networks through exchanges with local governments, experience it expects to strengthen its industrial and technological benefits proposal, a key part of Canada’s submarine procurement process.<\/p>\n
“I am pleased and honored to join Hanwha Ocean,” Copeland said in a statement released by the company. “I will strive to ensure the experience gained through Canadian naval projects translates into securing the contract.”\n<\/p>\n
