May 15 (Asia Today) — Hanwha Aerospace said Friday it has signed an agreement with Milrem Robotics to cooperate on unmanned ground vehicle projects in Romania.<\/p>\n
The agreement was signed Thursday at the BSDA 2026 international defense exhibition in Bucharest among Hanwha Aerospace, Milrem Robotics and Hanwha Aerospace Romania.\n<\/p>\n
Demand for multipurpose unmanned systems is rising across Europe and among NATO member states, while Romania is pursuing next-generation unmanned ground vehicles.<\/p>\n
Hanwha Aerospace has developed wheeled unmanned ground vehicle platforms including Arion-SMET and Grunt. Milrem Robotics’ tracked unmanned ground vehicle platform, THeMIS, has gained recognition in global markets for rough-terrain mobility, a hybrid propulsion system and the ability to integrate various mission equipment.<\/p>\n
The two companies are also jointly developing a tracked unmanned ground vehicle larger than their existing platforms.<\/p>\n
Before signing the agreement, Hanwha Aerospace demonstrated manned-unmanned teaming capabilities in Romania using Grunt and THeMIS platforms, drawing interest from Romanian military officials.<\/p>\n
Hanwha Aerospace plans to establish local production and supply systems for next-generation unmanned solutions in Romania and expand its unmanned systems business across Europe.<\/p>\n
“This cooperation will allow us to provide solutions optimized for Romania’s operational environment while expanding our unmanned systems portfolio in Europe and the NATO market,” said Lim Kyung-wook, head of Hanwha Aerospace Romania.\n<\/p>\n
