News1

The Korean National Police Agency has instructed front-line officers to refrain from dispatching to scenes even when 112 emergency calls are received about noise from school sports day events.

The agency recently issued a directive to metropolitan and provincial police agencies nationwide stating, “Refrain from dispatching as much as possible for simple noise complaints related to elementary, middle and high school sports days,” sources said Thursday.

The move is interpreted as an effort to establish a consistent dispatch policy and reduce confusion among officers in the field. Cases of excessive 112 calls and civil complaints over noise from school playgrounds have been increasing nationwide.

Last year, a total of 350 emergency calls were made to 112 regarding playground noise, with police dispatched to the scene in 345 of those cases. The figure includes complaints related not only to school-run sports days but also to events held on school grounds by outside groups such as alumni associations.

Critics argue that sports days, considered a “festival” for students, are being undermined as a result. Reflecting these concerns, police have recently been closing most school sports day noise complaints with civil guidance rather than dispatching officers, while still responding in person when calls are repeated.

Children play with their teachers at the “2025 Songpa Daycare Festival” held at Jamsil Reservoir Park in Songpa-gu,…

[3
13733,10449,13735,1416,13732,13734,13731,112
0":"post-19285","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-seoul","8":"tag-112-emergency-calls","9":"tag-civil-complaints","10":"tag-korea-education","11":"tag-korean-national-police-agency","12":"tag-noise-complaints","13":"tag-police-dispatch-policy","14":"tag-school-sports-day","15":"tag-seoul
["GET
