Beat the Streets Baltimore<\/a>, a nonprofit that supports youth.<\/p>\nIt’s all part of philanthropic efforts ahead of the K-pop group’s summer concerts in Baltimore. <\/p>\n
Phyllis Krasnokutsky, a member of the BTS Army, shared how the band’s music has affected her and others.<\/p>\n
“The music, it hits you whether you understand the language or not. It penetrates and it makes you happy,” Krasnokutsky told WBAL-TV 11 News. <\/p>\n
She explained that BTS promotes themes that have resonated deeply with fans. <\/p>\n
“BTS, through all their music and through their development, has always promoted self-love, self-care, and a lot of mental health,” Krasnokutsky told WBAL-TV 11 News. <\/p>\n
Krasnokutsky also shared how listening to BTS helped her personally. <\/p>\n
“I didn’t realize how depressed I was being a 24\/7 caregiver until I started listening to their music, and it has really changed my life,” Krasnokutsky told WBAL-TV 11 News. <\/p>\n
The BTS Army’s fundraising efforts in Baltimore are intentional, aiming to honor the values the K-pop group represents. <\/p>\n
“That was intentional,” Krasnokutsky told WBAL-TV 11 News. “I think it was the multiple levels they go. It’s not just a wrestling team.”<\/p>\n
Beat the Streets Baltimore Executive Director Lydell Henry explained the organization’s mission. <\/p>\n
“Beat the Streets Baltimore is an organization that uses wrestling to engage kids in their academic careers and personal development, from a holistic approach,” Henry told WBAL-TV 11 News.<\/p>\n
“(We use) wrestling to engage kids in their academic careers and personal development.”<\/p>\n
The program serves up to 300 K-12 students annually to build confidence, mental toughness and perseverance. <\/p>\n
“It means a lot to help with us to continue our programming in, to serving kids throughout Baltimore City,” Henry told WBAL-TV 11 News. <\/p>\n
The BTS Army’s $10,000 contribution is part of a larger goal of $37,000, which they hope to reach by the time of the concert. Henry said the funds will support tournaments, academic interventions, transportation and events for 25-50 youths. <\/p>\n
