Kakao Pay will waive payment processing fees for newly registered small and medium-sized merchant partners. The company will also provide free marketing packages called the “Boss Success Kit” and offline payment kits that support transactions from foreign tourists, aimed at helping these merchants boost sales.<\/p>\n
Kakao Pay announced Tuesday that it will fully waive Kakao Pay Money payment processing fees for small and medium-sized merchants that register as new Kakao Pay offline payment partners by December 31 this year.<\/p>\n
Eligible merchants are small and medium-sized businesses with annual revenue of 500 million won or less that complete their new partnership applications and screening between the 18th of this month and the 30th of next month. The fee waiver applies to Kakao Pay Money barcode and QR code payments. Since Kakao Pay Money payments account for approximately 61% of Kakao Pay’s total transaction volume, the actual fee savings felt by merchants are expected to be substantial.<\/p>\n
Merchants that record their first Kakao Pay transaction after signing a partnership agreement will additionally receive the “Boss Success Kit,” a marketing package. The kit consists of a marketing campaign offering up to 30% discount coupons fully funded by Kakao Pay for 60 days from the start of each round, exposure of store information within the Kakao Pay app and Kakao Map, and promotional materials for store payment guidance featuring Kakao Friends characters. The company explained that this will support small business owners’ sales growth marketing by attracting potential customers near the store and encouraging repeat visits.<\/p>\n
Payment kits that can be used without expensive equipment such as separate terminals or barcode scanners will also be provided free of charge. Merchants can apply for a payment kit through the Kakao Pay app and receive one featuring Kakao Friends characters. Simply placing it in the store enables them to accept customer payments. The kit supports payments via credit cards registered with Kakao Pay and Kakao Pay Money, as well as local currencies and various government subsidy payments.<\/p>\n
Payment convenience for foreign tourists will also be enhanced. Foreign visitors to Korea can make payments using the pay services they use in their home countries without going through separate currency exchange procedures. Kakao Pay believes merchants can also benefit from sales growth driven by the rising number of foreign tourists.<\/p>\n
