LG Innotek

LG Innotek (011070.KS) joined the ranks of “emperor stocks” for the first time, with shares surging nearly 25% in early trading to briefly touch 1.1 million won. Brokerages also moved to reflect the changed sentiment, raising the highest target price for LG Innotek from 1.2 million won to 1.3 million won.

According to the Korea Exchange on the 26th, LG Innotek was trading at 1,098,000 won, up 234,000 won, or 27.08%, from the previous session. The stock had closed at 864,000 won on May 22, the most recent trading day, before crossing the 1 million won threshold for the first time and entering the ranks of “emperor stocks.” After reaching as high as 1,115,000 won during the session, LG Innotek extended its gains and attempted to push into the 1.2 million won range.

Brokerages successively raised their target price ceilings for LG Innotek. While NH Investment & Securities and KB Securities had previously set the highest target at 1.2 million won, Hana Securities released a report Monday raising its target to 1.3 million won. Kim Min-kyung, an analyst at Hana Securities, lifted her target price from 700,000 won to 1.3 million won, citing expected profitability improvements across all business divisions.

“The rise in average selling price (ASP) from the adoption of variable aperture camera modules in the second half will drive earnings,” Kim said. “We expect profitability improvements through cost reductions from expanded in-house production of key components, yield improvements, and expanded production in Vietnam.” She added, “We see profitability improvements in substrates such as radio frequency system-in-package (RF SIP) and flip-chip chip-scale package (FCCSP) occurring simultaneously through customer expansion and substrate specification upgrades.”

Hana Securities forecast that LG Innotek’s operating profit this year will reach 1.1115 trillion won, up 67% year-on-year. Revenue over the same period was projected to rise 8.9% to 23.8529 trillion won.
