SEOUL, May 29 (Reuters) – A minority labour union at Samsung Electronics representing its consumer electronics workers \u200cwill ask a South Korean court to suspend \u200cthe implementation of a pay deal that primarily benefits employees in \u200bthe chip division, a lawyer said.<\/p>\n
Two other unions at the world’s largest memory chip and TV maker, including its biggest union, voted to approve a pay deal this week \u200cthat provides huge \u2060bonuses for workers in Samsung’s memory chip division, which has seen profits soar amid the \u2060AI boom.<\/p>\n
The Samsung Electronics Co Union (SECU), which has about 13,000 members, mostly from the company’s smartphone, TV and home \u200bappliances \u200bdivisions, had initially filed an \u200binjunction to suspend the \u200cvote.<\/p>\n
The approval of the 11th-hour government-mediated agreement averted a planned 18-day strike, but meant some employees outside the chip division did not fare as well.<\/p>\n
Now that the vote has passed, SECU will ask the court to suspend \u200cthe implementation of the pay \u200bdeal, a lawyer for the union \u200bsaid in a \u200bcourt hearing on Friday.<\/p>\n
Legal counsel for SECU \u200csaid they would submit documents \u200bnext week revising \u200bthe injunction request, and expect a court to make a ruling within a month.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for \u200bSamsung Electronics’ biggest \u200cunion declined to comment.<\/p>\n
The company was not immediately \u200bavailable for comment.<\/p>\n
