Kyobo Securities raised its target price for Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) to 330,000 won from the previous 220,000 won, citing confirmation of the strength and durability of the memory chip boom. The brokerage said earnings forecasts are rising rapidly as surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) from expanded AI data center investment is accompanied by strong demand for server DDR5 and mobile LPDDR5X.<\/p>\n

Choi Bo-young, an analyst at Kyobo Securities, maintained a “buy” rating on Samsung Electronics and raised the target price to 330,000 won on Thursday. The target implies about 42% upside from the closing price of 232,500 won on the 4th.<\/p>\n

Choi said Samsung Electronics posted a record quarterly performance in the first quarter with revenue of 133.9 trillion won and operating profit of 57.2 trillion won ($39.3 billion). Revenue rose 69% and operating profit jumped 756% from a year earlier, while both climbed 43% and 185% respectively from the previous quarter. Operating profit from the Device Solutions (DS) division reached 53.7 trillion won, accounting for most of the company’s total profit.<\/p>\n

DRAM posted operating profit of 41.7 trillion won with an operating margin of 78.0%, driven by 4% bit growth and a 94% increase in average selling price (ASP). NAND also recorded operating profit of 13.1 trillion won and an operating margin of 65.4%, backed by 10% bit growth and a 93% rise in ASP. “With DRAM and NAND prices rising 91% and 89% respectively, memory profits surged explosively,” Choi said. “Meanwhile, cost burdens are increasing in the non-memory and set businesses.”<\/p>\n

Kyobo Securities forecasts second-quarter revenue of 158 trillion won and operating profit of 81 trillion won. DRAM is expected to deliver operating profit of 62.1 trillion won based on 5% bit growth and a 34% increase in ASP, while NAND is projected to post operating profit of 15.5 trillion won.<\/p>\n

Choi said overall memory demand is showing strength, with rising HBM demand from expanded AI data center investment accompanied by server DDR5, mobile LPDDR5X and enterprise SSDs (eSSD) for data centers. “Expanded shipments of 12-layer HBM4 and the transition to the 1c-nano process are accelerating improvements in product mix,” she said. “The expansion of long-term supply contracts and the full-scale ramp-up of HBM4 are enhancing both earnings visibility and durability.”<\/p>\n
