HD HHI brings extensive experience and advanced technical capabilities in the design and construction of such tankers, as indicated by Executive Vice President Dongjin Lee. The initiative anticipates growing demand for U.S.-flagged vessels, driven by U.S. shipbuilding revitalization policies, and aims to proactively address specific U.S. Coast Guard technical requirements. Through this collaboration, HD HHI seeks to strengthen its competitiveness in the U.S. market and deliver safe, compliant, and high-value vessel solutions.

As part of the deal, ABS will review the HD HHI design in accordance with ABS rules and U.S. Coast Guard requirements. Patrick Ryan, ABS Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, noted that ABS has provided owners and operators with insight and guidance from the first 100,000 DWT tanker to today’s most advanced designs, always with a focus on safety. He added that the initiative with HD HHI reflects ABS’s continuing commitment to supporting practical, forward-looking solutions for the next generation of U.S.-flagged vessels.

This partnership follows shortly after ABS gave SBM Offshore the go-ahead for the Dutch company’s seawater intake riser technology, developed in collaboration with Shell.

<p
