The index was dragged down by chipmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/HXSCL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SK Hynix<\/a> and tech giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SSU-FF\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Samsung<\/a>, with both companies ending the session on losses of more than 12%. <\/p>\n<p>In Europe, shares also fell sharply as the pan-European\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.STOXX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stoxx 600<\/a>\u00a0shed 1.2% in early trading.<\/p>\n<p>The Stoxx 600 Technology index led regional losses, with a decline of 3.2%. Chipmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/STM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">STMicroelectronics<\/a> and Dutch semiconductor equipment maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ASM-NL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ASMI<\/a> were both down more than 7%, putting them among the biggest downward movers on the Stoxx 600.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">futures<\/a> tied to New York&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.NDX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq 100<\/a> index \u2014 home to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AAPL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GOOGL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alphabet<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MSFT\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a> \u2014 lost 2.7% ahead of Tuesday&#8217;s regular trading session. <\/p>\n<p>In pre-market trading on Wall Street, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SOXX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iShares Semiconductor ETF<\/a> was down 5.9%, with individual chip stocks notching big losses. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/INTC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Intel<\/a> was last seen trading 7.8% lower, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MU\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Micron<\/a> lost 8.4% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMD\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AMD<\/a> was down by 6%.
