It is short, sounds expensive, and leaves plenty of room for the fine print. LG Display has now received an Intertek certification for its entire range of large-format OLED panels under the designation \u201cPerfect Color\/Brightness Accuracy up to 500 lux.\u201d According to the company, this is the world\u2019s first certification of its kind. It covers large OLED panels for televisions and monitors and is intended to confirm that color and brightness are reproduced consistently even under ambient light of up to 500 lux. LG Display cites 100 percent color accuracy, 100 percent brightness accuracy, and reproduction without color crosstalk. At first glance, this sounds like absolutely error-free reproduction. However, the precise definition is narrower: the statement primarily means that color and brightness do not change when switching between test patterns of different sizes. The certification therefore says something interesting about the panel\u2019s behavior. But it does not mean that every television with an LG panel renders all colors mathematically perfectly without calibration.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-322973\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/32aa25dd-c502-4113-907f-0870db8356dd-980x653.jpg\" alt=\"Symbol image\" width=\"980\" height=\"653\"  \/>Symbol image<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Testing was carried out with ambient light of up to 500 lux<\/p>\n<p>500 lux corresponds roughly to a well-lit office, a bright kitchen, or a conference room. For a typical television, this is a demanding environment because light from the room falls onto the screen surface and reduces the perceived contrast. According to LG Display, Intertek examined OLED and LCD panels with various test patterns. Changes in color and brightness were measured in selected image areas.<\/p>\n<p>This definition is important. \u201c100 percent color accuracy\u201d here does not automatically describe complete coverage of Rec.2020, a Delta-E value of zero, or perfect factory settings. The certificate evaluates a specific form of stability under the defined test conditions. OLED pixels generate their own light. Each pixel can be controlled independently or completely switched off. LCDs, by contrast, require a backlight that is regulated in larger zones depending on the model. This structural difference has a particularly noticeable effect on images with small bright objects against a dark background. A starry sky, fireworks, or white text on black are typical examples. On LCDs, light from a dimming zone can spill into adjacent dark areas. Manufacturers therefore sometimes reduce the brightness of small highlights to avoid visible halos. As a result, the same white object can appear differently bright depending on its size and background. LG Display explains that the tested OLED panels, thanks to pixel-level control, showed neither this reduction in brightness nor color distortions between adjacent image areas. In high-quality RGB-LED LCDs, Intertek reportedly observed partial color shifts that depended on the background of the test image. Full measurement protocols or a list of the LCD models tested were not made public. Color crosstalk describes an undesired influence on neighboring pixels or subpixels. For example, a strongly illuminated red area can alter the measured color of a directly adjacent element. Such effects can arise from optical scattering, electrical interactions, internal reflections, or the specific pixel structure. In tandem OLED panels, the structure becomes more complex because several organic emissive layers are stacked on top of one another. LG Display claims that its tested panels showed no measurable color crosstalk. Without publicly available threshold values, however, it is not known what deviation Intertek still accepted as \u201cfree of color crosstalk.\u201d The certificate is therefore a reliable indication of a controlled test result, but not a substitute for independent laboratory measurements of specific televisions and monitors. LG Display produces the panels, not necessarily the complete end product.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturers such as LG Electronics, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, or other partners combine these panels with their own electronics, image processing, cooling, and software. The finished device can therefore behave differently from the bare panel. Picture modes, white balance, tone mapping, automatic brightness limiting, and power-saving functions have a significant influence on the result. A television in a particularly bright showroom mode can show unnatural colors despite a certified panel. Likewise, a well-calibrated display without this certification can achieve more precise absolute color values. The certificate therefore primarily says: the basic OLED structure behaves stably under the tested patterns and lighting conditions. It does not guarantee that every factory setting of an end product is correct. Even a self-emissive display can reflect ambient light. When lamps or windows are visible on the screen surface, black appears subjectively brighter and contrast decreases. According to LG, the new certification evaluates the reproduction of color and brightness under ambient light. It does not mean that reflections disappear completely. LG Display also promotes particularly low reflection values for current tandem WOLED panels. However, this property depends on the surface coating and structure of the specific panel and must be considered separately from the color and brightness certification. For bright living rooms, the position of the television therefore remains relevant. Even the best OLED panel does not beat a window that reflects in the middle of a dark movie scene like a second sun on the screen. LG states that Intertek used several test patterns and measured changes in color and brightness. Detailed information is nevertheless missing. Not publicly specified are, among other things, the exact panel models, measurement devices, test pattern sizes, permissible tolerances, measurement points, and the full results of the compared LCD panels. Nor is this a generally established standard such as VESA DisplayHDR with publicly visible test requirements. Intertek is a major international testing and certification provider, but the specific certification apparently was developed jointly for this application area. That does not make it meaningless. It merely limits how far the results can be independently verified and compared with other panel types. The results confirm a well-known fundamental OLED advantage: small bright and dark image areas can be controlled independently of one another. As a result, contrast and color reproduction remain more stable in difficult scenes than with zone-based backlights. For buyers, however, this does not mean that every OLED is automatically the best choice. Depending on the model, LCDs can achieve higher full-field brightness, are sometimes less expensive, and do not have a comparable risk of uneven organic aging. The decisive factor remains the specific end device. In addition to the panel, the image processor, cooling, tone mapping, factory settings, connections, and long-term behavior matter. The certification provides an additional data point. It should not be reinterpreted as a universal ranking of all televisions.<\/p>\n<p>Conclusion<\/p>\n<p>LG Display\u2019s new certification is technically more interesting than the somewhat generously chosen word \u201cperfect\u201d suggests. It apparently confirms that the OLED panels maintain color and brightness stably with test patterns of different sizes and at up to 500 lux, while showing no relevant color crosstalk. This is a genuine structural advantage of self-emissive pixels. At the same time, \u201c100 percent accuracy\u201d here does not mean absolute perfection across every color space, every brightness level, and every factory setting. LG has achieved a good test result \u2014 not defeated physics once and for all.
