LG Electronics

LG Electronics (066570.KS) is joining hands with Nvidia, the world’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) company, to secure leadership in the next-generation Physical AI ecosystem. Following an exclusive meeting earlier this month between LG Group Chairman Kwang-mo Koo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the two companies’ comprehensive AI alliance is moving onto a full-fledged track.

Lyu Jae-cheol, president and CEO of LG Electronics, said Wednesday through his LinkedIn channel that “we held additional discussions with Nvidia on-site in the United States and concretized the detailed areas of Physical AI cooperation and the strategic partnership.”

Through this partnership, the two companies will focus on building an LG Data Factory using Nvidia’s platform, advancing LG Electronics’ AI data center cooling solutions, and creating synergies based on LG’s robot mass-production system. The plan is to cooperate across the entire process, from AI infrastructure to robot manufacturing, to preemptively respond to the Physical AI ecosystem, a future growth engine.

The most powerful weapon LG Electronics brings is its vast “manufacturing data.” The pure data and manufacturing capabilities accumulated at customer touchpoints worldwide through its smart home platform “ThinQ” are cited as core competitive strengths.

“LG Electronics holds sophisticated manufacturing data generated at 31 production facilities in 14 countries,” Lyu said. “The volume of data gathered over the past 10 years alone amounts to 770 terabytes (TB), equivalent to about 197,000 high-definition movies.”

A deep understanding of living spaces is another differentiating point. For decades, LG Electronics has designed and operated diverse spaces ranging from home appliances to commercial facilities, factories, and mobility, accumulating deep insights into customers’ lifestyles, device usage patterns, movement routes, and energy use. The company aims to combine this with Nvidia’s powerful computing power to realize Physical AI that interacts with humans in real-world environments.

The company will also fully leverage the competitiveness of its components business, led by next-generation cooling solutions. “LG Electronics is a company with a technology ecosystem that can actually realize the future AI envisions,” Lyu explained. “In the AI infrastructure domain, we will support the building of a more efficient and stable AI operating environment through cooperation on next-generation cooling solutions and AI data center technology.”

He stressed, “Together with global leaders such as Nvidia, we will connect AI to customer value and industrial innovation, turning the new possibilities of the Physical AI era into reality.”

Meanwhile, the concretization of this partnership is an extension of the “hyperscale AI alliance” being pursued at the group level. Earlier this month, Chairman Koo and CEO Huang met at the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, to solidify a partnership across the AI ecosystem, including the joint development of reference robots. Then, on Nov. 22, executives from LG Group’s major affiliates visited Nvidia’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, to discuss follow-up cooperation measures, continuing close collaboration spanning the two countries.

Ryu Jae-cheol, President and CEO of LG Electronics, speaks during a presentation.
