A further 81 trillion won is expected for a chip packaging cluster in the Chungcheong area near Seoul.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">&#8220;To meet the rapidly increasing demand for semiconductors, we need to quickly complete the production hubs that are currently under construction,&#8221; Lee said.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">&#8220;At the same time, we must secure overwhelming production capacity in advance through large-scale \u200cnew investments, including in the southwestern region. Lee said at the event the company had selected Gwangju as a site for its new \u200cchip cluster, while SK Hynix&#8217;s Chairman Chey Tae-won said the firm needed more time to finalise a site and \u200bsecure infrastructure in the southwestern region.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">&#8220;It took us nine years for us to create a cluster in Yongin. font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Opposition \u200cpoliticians have sharply criticised Lee&#8217;s southwest chip hub, questioning whether the proposal \u200bis politically motivated given that 85% of voters in \u200bthe region backed Lee in last year&#8217;s presidential election.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">In addition to chips, science minister Bae Kyung-hoon said South Korea \u200bis aiming to invest 550 trillion won in AI data centres by \u200c2029 and more than 1,000 trillion won by 2035, while decentralising infrastructure to support regional growth beyond the capital.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none;
