Yonhap News

Three people suffered heat-related illnesses in Seoul on Wednesday, the second day a heat advisory was in effect across the city, and one of them died, authorities confirmed.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s emergency room surveillance system for heat-related illnesses, Seoul’s heat casualties totaled three people, including one death, as of 4 p.m. that day. Since the surveillance system began operating on June 15, Seoul has recorded a cumulative total of 71 heat-illness patients, including two deaths.

The heat advisory issued in Seoul took effect at 11 a.m. the previous day and has remained in place for a second day. A heat advisory is issued when the daily maximum perceived temperature is expected to stay at 33 degrees Celsius or higher for two or more days.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government entered Level 1 emergency operations with the issuance of the heat advisory. It is currently operating a heat situation room of 503 personnel across 101 teams. The city said it also carried out protective measures, including checking on the well-being of 47,003 people in heat-vulnerable groups such as homeless people, residents of single-room dwellings, elderly people living alone, people with disabilities, those with chronic illnesses, and outdoor workers.

A total of 9,851 heat-response facilities and infrastructure sites, including climate-companion shelters and cooling shelters, are in operation. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to continue providing heat safety guidelines—such as drinking enough water and refraining from outdoor activities during midday—through electronic display boards, the city’s website, and safety alert text messages.

Citizens carrying parasols cross a street near Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on the 18th, when this summer’s first…

[3
38311,38312,38313,13347,14673,112,38310,2205,17008
post-70019","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-seoul","tag-heat-advisory","tag-heat-death","tag-heat-shelters","tag-heat-related-illness","tag-korea-disease-control-and-prevention-agency","tag-seoul","tag-seoul-heat-wave","tag-seoul-metropolitan-government","tag-vulnerable-groups
["GET
