Amid the sharp decline, top-return investors appear to have viewed it as a buying opportunity and moved to purchase shares. “There are worrying developments such as the National Pension Service’s rebalancing and BlackRock’s downgrade of its emerging-market investment view, but it is hard to find a clear negative factor,” a securities industry official said. “Some investors appear to have judged this a bargain-buying opportunity.”

SK hynix plans to list American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) on the U.S. Nasdaq market late this month. If the Nasdaq listing goes through, the company’s standing as a global memory chipmaker could be reassessed, and combined with supply-demand effects, this could create upward momentum for the stock. In addition, with an earnings uptrend continuing on the back of expanded global artificial intelligence (AI) investment, the company is projected to post high operating margins centered on high-value products such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM). Shinhan Securities recently raised its target price for SK hynix to 4.2 million won from 3.8 million won. It presented an operating profit forecast of 66.8 trillion won for the second quarter.

Samsung Electronics is showing weakness alongside SK hynix, with its shares currently down 4.94% at 317,500 won. However, the securities industry expects its medium- to long-term upward momentum to be maintained. Sangsangin Securities issued a report the same day presenting a target price of 580,000 won for Samsung Electronics. It forecast second-quarter revenue and operating profit of 178.3 trillion won and 83.9 trillion won, respectively. AI-driven demand growth, beyond HBM, is causing supply shortages of conventional DRAM and NAND flash, which could translate into strong earnings for Samsung Electronics, which has secured a value chain across the entire semiconductor production process.

Ecopro, which ranked third, is seen as having a chance of an earnings rebound on the back of strong electric vehicle sales in Europe. European EV sales are reported to have turned to growth from March. Rising EV sales could bring favorable conditions for secondary battery-related companies. The possibility of securing additional clients amid Europe’s supply chain localization and strengthening de-China stance is also drawing attention.

The most heavily net-sold stocks the same day were DB HiTek, APR, and LG Electronics, in that order. In the previous session, net buying was highest for SK hynix, Hanmi Semiconductor, and POSCO Holdings, in that order. The most heavily net-sold stocks the previous day were Samsung Electro-Mechanics, LS Electric, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Mirae Asset Securities compiles the trades of investors ranking in the top 1% by returns over the past month among its customers and discloses them on its mobile trading system (MTS) on a real-time, previous-day, and recent five-day basis.
