The Samsung R95H Micro RGB TV<\/a> swaps traditional mini-LEDs for a micro RGB light array and is the first mass market TV of its type from the brand. Until now, TVs have offered three back display options. There\u2019s mini-LED, which gives you sky-high brightness and decent contrast; OLED, which is more expensive but showcases a darker picture and excellent contrast; and QLED, which is a balance between mini-LED and OLED. However, micro RGB disrupts this balance by introducing a more vivid color display that can mimic OLED back panels. Samsung R95H Micro RGB TV: DisplayRivals OLED\u2014Once Properly Calibrated<\/p>\n

After you unbox the Samsung R95H Micro RGB TV, plan to spend a little time fine-tuning the picture settings. In the white balance section of the picture settings menu are controls for red, green and blue. These let you tweak how the colors look on screen. On my unit, I found reds were way too strong out of the box, so that\u2019s where I started making adjustments. While in Filmmaker mode, I reduced their saturation; this small change helped make characters look more like humans than tomatoes. After you take the time to calibrate, it\u2019s a much better, immensely more enjoyable viewing experience.<\/p>\n

That also applies to shadow details, which I increased. The TV performs very similarly to an OLED. Contrast pops onscreen, though I found there are moments when limitations show. When I viewed the display at a wide angle, I noted minor color and image degradation. Still, that\u2019s typical in any kind of LED or RGB TV, which experiences some image degradation; the difference here is that it\u2019s wider than other options, which is a good thing. To me, that means Samsung is finally making something closer to OLED\u2014my gold standard in TVs\u2014than before.<\/p>\n

One big thing to note: The TV gets warm. Typically, I tested for a minimum of two hours every evening, but between gaming and streaming, the TV was usually on for over three hours. Every single night, without fail, I had to turn on my air conditioning before bedtime because my space turned sweltering. I hadn\u2019t changed my routine otherwise, and my pre-war apartment is remarkably efficient at staying cool during the warm summer months. Ultimately, I attribute this temperature spike to the TV\u2019s heat output. I wouldn\u2019t necessarily recommend wall mounting this TV, as I believe the heat sink may cause issues long-term. But setting it on a console with plenty of space around it may elongate its lifespan. <\/p>\n

Samsung R95H Micro RGB TV: PerformanceBold Hues And AI Integrations <\/p>\n

The Samsung R95H has tried to establish itself as one of the best TVs on the market. To an extent, it does feel like a strong contender for that moniker. Scenes from Frankenstein looked deep and rich, and I found myself really appreciating the jeweled hues used in Mia Goth\u2019s costumes. Some may feel it\u2019s too cartoonish, especially after I noted the deep red hues Catherine Earnshaw (Margot Robbie) wore throughout Wuthering Heights. If that\u2019s the case, you can desaturate colors in the settings, but not everyone wants to put that much effort into a TV\u2019s picture settings.<\/p>\n

Outside of some minor blurring, action sequences in Mad Max: Fury Road looked crisp and colorful.<\/p>\n

Outside of some minor blurring, sequences in Mad Max: Fury Road kept oranges and blues rich and clear without one threatening to overpower the other. The blur extended to more modern films, too, including They Will Kill You and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don\u2019t Die, but again, unless you\u2019re really looking for it, it\u2019s pretty minor and shouldn\u2019t detract from the overall experience.<\/p>\n

There were moments I wished that the TV could provide more shadow detail, and it was very mixed. Some scenes, the TV excelled at showcasing dark details, such as a black fur covering or a busy street at midnight. Others moments felt lost to the blackness, such as when I lost textures on a black wool jacket.<\/p>\n

Gamers May Be Subject To More Calibration<\/p>\n

Gamers who don\u2019t want to calibrate the TV may want to skip this model, but for those who want a vivid, bright picture, you may feel it\u2019s worth that hassle. It took me a few different tries to nail the calibration, despite my ISF-certification training. Colors were too dark, but quick tweaks to the settings helped bring out detail in dark clothing and hair. Bright scenes were especially bright but didn\u2019t feel blinding. I noted some gameplay sequences in Like a Dragon: Ishin! experienced small issues retaining stable gradients, but newer games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond remained stable. If you play AAA, newer titles, you shouldn\u2019t experience any trouble.<\/p>\n

Gamers should plan to tweak the Game mode settings to get correct colors and shadow details.<\/p>\n

The TV, in theory, should recognize and enter its Game Mode when I turn on such gaming consoles as a PlayStation or Nintendo Switch. I experienced one moment when the TV didn\u2019t recognize when I turned on my Nintendo Switch 2, but no matter what or how I tried, I couldn\u2019t replicate the issue again. I attribute this to a small glitch, which I\u2019ve found is typical in early launch models. Outside of the tweaks and glitches, gameplay looked excellent.<\/p>\n

AI, Plus A Warm Back Panel<\/p>\n

The TV leans heavily into AI. Press the dedicated AI button on the remote, and a window opens which houses agents including Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity and more. Perplexity is the newest addition here, introduced late last year. Once you enter the application, you use the remote\u2019s microphone button to speak to the AI agent to receive answers. Perplexity does a better job of providing more direct answers, while I found myself using Copilot for more casual responses. You can also use this section of the software to create Generative AI wallpapers, casually window shop and more.<\/p>\n

Micro RGB feels like a rival to mini-LED and QLED options, and I believe it\u2019s a nice alternative to OLED panels. If you love particularly vivid colors or prefer OLED-like inky blacks without spending the price on a flagship OLED model, it\u2019s a good balance.<\/p>\n

However, those who plan to wall-mount a TV or who aren\u2019t keen on finagling settings may want to look elsewhere. But for those who are willing to put in the extra effort to make your picture pop and feel immersive onscreen, I recommend it. Heck, I may even make this panel my main.<\/p>\n

How I Tested The Samsung R95H Micro RGB TV<\/p>\n

I spent one month with the Samsung R95H Micro RGB TV. First, I calibrated the TV, and once I felt it was ready for viewing, I began testing it across movies and TV shows. This way, I could get a sense of the display performance. <\/p>\n

Picture quality in movies: In particular, I tested the TV across the following action and drama movies to discern how the TV handled action sequences, color saturation, viewing angles and more. Movies used for testing include Mad Max: Fury Road; They Will Kill You; Good Luck, Have Fun, Don\u2019t Die; Wuthering Heights; and Frankenstein.Picture quality in TV shows: I also tested across plenty of TV shows, both animated and live action, to learn more about the TV\u2019s overall performance. I always test using the same scenes in the same TV shows to understand how a TV handles color changes, sudden light fluctuations and more. This way, my time testing TVs is standardized across all panels. These are the shows I test with: House of the Dragon; Arcane; Rick & Morty; The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms; and more.Gaming features: I reviewed the gaming features on the TV, either watching my husband game or playing myself for a minimum of 20 hours. I tested and viewed gameplay across multiple genres, including: Stardew Valley; Like A Dragon: Ishin!; Don\u2019t Starve; Mass Effect: Andromeda; Metroid Prime 4: Beyond; and more. I tested on two different consoles: the PlayStation 4 Pro and the Nintendo Switch 2.Software: I also dove deep into the software, noting changes and updates to the Samsung Tizen OS, and in particular Samsung\u2019s new AI framework, Voice AI Companion (VAC).
