The reversal followed the belated disclosure that the company had supported Korean War veterans for 25 years, prompting a wave of “donjjul” — consumers buying its products and investors buying its shares.

From Delisting Risk to Daily Limit

According to the Korea Exchange on the 9th, Hansung Enterprise closed at 6,510 won, up 29.94% from the previous trading day. With the stock jumping more than 50% over four days, its market capitalization swelled to 40.4 billion won, easing concerns over delisting.

Hansung Enterprise is a comprehensive food company known for products such as imitation crab meat and fish cakes. However, affected by recent rises in raw material prices and bond impairments, its revenue last year fell 4.2% from a year earlier to 318.4 billion won, and operating profit declined from about 11 billion won to 5.8 billion won. The stock also dropped to as low as the 4,200 won range last month, reducing its market capitalization to around 26.1 billion won.

On top of this, with the KOSPI listing maintenance standard tightened from this month to require a market capitalization of at least 30 billion won, the possibility of delisting was raised. The Korea Exchange raised the standard to clear out troubled listed companies, and in January next year the threshold is set to be raised further to 50 billion won.

Captured from Hansung Enterprise’s official website

Veteran Support Rediscovered…Both Products and Shares See ‘Donjjul’

What changed the mood was a social contribution activity rediscovered online. As it became known that Hansung Enterprise had for 25 years sponsored a “Concert for Heroes” for UN war veterans, posts saying “companies like this deserve support” spread quickly across social networking services (SNS) and online communities.

In response, consumers posted proof of product purchases alongside proof of stock purchases one after another, and at the time orders flooded the company’s online mall “Hansung Market” to the point that some products sold out or deliveries were delayed. Online, reactions continued such as “the delivery is late but it’s worth the wait” and “let’s support a good company through consumption.”

Hansung Enterprise, in an official statement, said, “We are deeply grateful for the support and encouragement sent recently,” while adding, “We feel cautious about whether we alone are receiving excessive praise.”

Regarding the veteran support event that drew attention, the company explained, “It is an event we have continued for 25 years together with the Hoguk Bohun Culture and Arts Association, where the chairman serves as head.” It added, “It is an activity we have quietly continued out of gratitude to those who devoted themselves to the country.” The company continued, “This event was possible because of the service of many sponsoring companies and musicians,” crediting those who shared in the effort.

Captured from Hansung Enterprise’s official website

Grateful, But Drawing a Line on the ‘Good Company’ Label

Hansung Enterprise explained that some claims that spread online differed from the facts. In particular, regarding the assessment that it is “a company that uses only domestic ingredients,” it said, “We also use imported raw materials,” adding, “We select and use a variety of raw materials from both home and abroad for reasonable prices and quality.”

It also said, “Rather than grand modifiers, we will remain an honest food company faithful to the basics,” adding, “We will take responsibility for the trust customers have placed in us and repay it with better products.”

In the market, this case is seen as going beyond a simple stock surge, as an example in which a company’s social contribution activities led to consumption and investment — a case of “value consumption” influencing the stock market as well. However, some point out that at a time when the burden on small and mid-sized listed companies with low corporate value has grown due to the tightened delisting standards, it is difficult to judge a company’s long-term competitiveness based on temporary attention alone.

Captured from Naver Pay Securities Hansung Enterprise, which had been pushed to the brink of delisting, turned into…

[457
43506,43509,43510,43505,337,17049,43507,864,43508
post-80921","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-korea-exchange","tag-delisting-risk","tag-donjjul","tag-food-company","tag-hansung-enterprise","tag-korea-exchange","tag-korean-war-veterans","tag-kospi-listing-standards","tag-krx","tag-value-consumption
["GET
