Moving beyond simple parts-ordering relationships, the company is providing comprehensive support including R&D costs, infrastructure, and technical training to upgrade the industrial ecosystem in preparation for government-led next-generation engine development projects.

Hanwha Aerospace announced on July 9 that it held an “Aircraft Engine Mutual Growth Business Agreement (MOU) Ceremony” at the Changwon Convention Center in Changwon Special City, South Gyeongsang Province, on July 8. The event was attended by representatives from 49 core suppliers in the aircraft engine manufacturing sector and over 100 officials from related organizations.

The core objective of this agreement is to elevate the technological competitiveness of suppliers to the level required for the government’s development of a 10,000-pound-class turbofan engine and advanced aircraft engines. Hanwha Aerospace has committed to providing customized technical and job training for each supplier, supporting R&D costs and testing infrastructure, and improving the overall transaction environment. This follows a mutual growth declaration ceremony and an MOU on aircraft engine materials and parts signed in February, serving as a continuation of practical shared-growth policies including joint R&D and support for suppliers’ overseas market expansion.

“Aircraft engine technological independence absolutely requires shared growth across the entire ecosystem,” emphasized Kim Jun-tae, head of Hanwha Aerospace’s defense business. “Through mutual cooperation, we will do our utmost to develop a domestically produced aircraft engine.”

Hanwha Aerospace’s latest move is interpreted as a signal heralding a structural transformation of South Korea’s aircraft engine industry. Until now, the domestic aircraft engine manufacturing ecosystem has been characterized by a vertical contractual relationship where large corporations assemble finished products while small and medium-sized suppliers handle simple machining or parts delivery. However, this agreement marks a shift to a “technology partnership” model where the large corporation directly invests in enhancing the R&D capabilities and production technology of its suppliers.

Notably, the government’s 10,000-pound-class turbofan engine development project is a critical initiative to replace the engines to be installed in the initial production batch of the KF-21 Korean fighter jet and to secure independent engine technology for the future. Since developing this engine requires highly sophisticated precision machining and heat-resistant material technologies, it is impossible for a single finished-product manufacturer to complete it alone. Through a united front with its 49 suppliers, Hanwha Aerospace’s strategy is to increase the localization rate of parts while simultaneously securing global-level quality and price competitiveness.

“An aircraft engine is a comprehensive work of art where tens of thousands of parts must operate perfectly under extreme conditions,” an industry insider noted. “Since a technological shortfall at even one supplier can delay the entire project, this ecosystem-strengthening effort is very timely.”

Prior to signing this agreement, Hanwha Aerospace had already identified numerous joint R&D projects for the localization of aircraft engine materials and parts. The company plans to spare no support in helping the domestic aircraft engine cluster centered on its Changwon plant grow into a global-level supply chain.

Hanwha Aerospace (012450) has established a large-scale mutual growth framework with 49 key suppliers, aiming for technological independence…

[28
27556,8295,43548,355,277,354,43549,43550,33,27557
post-81019","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-hanwha-aerospace","tag-aircraft-engine","tag-changwon","tag-changwon-convention-center","tag-hanwha","tag-hanwha-aerospace","tag-hanwha-group","tag-kim-jun-tae","tag-localization","tag-south-korea","tag-turbofan-engine
["GET
