Samsung Display expanded its engagement with Chinese gamers by participating for the first time in Asia’s largest subculture expo, while LG Display reinforced its technology leadership by releasing research demonstrating that high refresh rate monitors tangibly improve game win rates.

Samsung Display participated for the first time in “Bilibili World 2026,” held from July 10 to 12 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China. The event is an annual expo hosted since 2017 by Bilibili, China’s leading content platform, and has now established itself as Asia’s premier comprehensive expo for animation, comics, and games (ACG). Last year, more than 400,000 visitors from over 20 countries attended, and this year’s edition was the largest ever, with over 700 companies participating.

Samsung Display set up a large-scale booth spanning approximately 300 square meters and prominently featured its collaboration with Tencent, the world’s largest gaming company. The entire booth was designed around the concept of Tencent’s new AAA title “Honor of Kings: World,” recreating the in-game space “Zhixia Square” in the form of a colosseum. To allow visitors to directly experience the differentiated picture quality of Samsung OLED and QD-OLED while playing the game, the company deployed over 50 IT devices, including 20 QD-OLED monitors, 12 OLED laptops, and 16 gaming smartphones. Twelve global client companies, including Acer, ASUS, MSI, Lenovo, and Philips, collaborated on this experiential exhibition.

At the expo, Samsung Display unveiled “OBLYX,” its OLED brand for gaming laptops, for the first time. OBLYX is a brand inspired by obsidian, a natural glass with a deep black color, symbolizing OLED’s perfect black picture quality, differentiated design, and outstanding gaming performance. Samsung Display plans to aggressively target the gaming market with the OBLYX lineup, which spans various screen sizes including 14-inch, 16-inch, and 18-inch models, with refresh rates of 120Hz, 165Hz, and 240Hz. OLED panels featuring OBLYX deliver an ultra-fast response time of 0.2ms, providing smooth motion without ghosting.

Samsung Display’s focus on the Chinese market stems from its explosive growth. According to market research firm Omdia, China’s gaming OLED laptop market recorded a compound annual growth rate of 1,449% from 2023 to 2025. This significantly outpaces the global market growth rate of 405% over the same period. China’s share of the global gaming OLED laptop market has also surged from 4% in 2023 to 38% in 2025, emerging as a core market.

“The growth of China’s gaming industry and the proliferation of high-spec content are driving increasing demand for differentiated gaming displays,” said Jeong Yong-wook, Senior Vice President of Samsung Display’s IT Strategy Marketing Team. “We will strengthen our position in the rapidly growing Chinese market by expanding cooperation with IT clients in the Greater China region.”

Meanwhile, LG Display showcased its technological prowess by releasing research results that scientifically validate the impact of gaming monitor refresh rates on actual gaming performance. According to an experiment conducted by LG Display using a blind test methodology with 31 adult casual gamers, when participants played a first-person shooter (FPS) game under four different refresh rate conditions — 60Hz, 240Hz, 360Hz, and 480Hz — the hit score for accurately striking targets improved by up to 38% in the 480Hz environment compared to 60Hz. Notably, even when compared to the 240Hz environment, which already showed significant improvement, the win rate increased by an additional 10% on 480Hz equipment. Analysis showed that gamers rated higher refresh rates as providing smoother visuals and making it easier to track moving enemies, with overall preference also rising.

This improvement in gaming performance is attributed to the physical advantages of OLED monitors, which drastically reduce input lag — the time it takes for an input signal to be reflected on screen — and motion blur. In the experiment, input lag time was reduced by more than 10ms in the 480Hz environment compared to 60Hz. “Based on our experience commercializing high-performance products such as the 27-inch 720Hz DFR OLED, which achieved the world’s highest refresh rate, we will preemptively secure next-generation display core technologies and strengthen our technological competitiveness,” said Choi Young-seok, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LG Display.

China’s gaming market is the world’s largest, with approximately 680 million users. In addition to solid demand centered on mobile games, the rapid proliferation of high-spec AAA titles like “Honor of Kings: World” is also driving growing demand for high-performance gaming displays. Samsung Display and LG Display are accelerating their competition to seize leadership in the fast-growing gaming display market, wielding OLED technology with overwhelming response times and black expression capabilities, and scientifically proven high refresh rate performance, respectively, as their weapons of choice.

South Korea’s display industry has launched a full-scale premium gaming technology offensive targeting the Chinese market, home to…

[25
44115,44117,44118,15533,44116,315,2482,314,43776,359,24867,17414,11559,40609
post-82343","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-lg","tag-bilibili-world-2026","tag-china-gaming-market","tag-gaming-laptop","tag-high-refresh-rate-monitor","tag-honor-of-kings-world","tag-lg","tag-lg-display","tag-lg-group","tag-oblyx","tag-oled","tag-omdia","tag-qd-oled","tag-samsung-display","tag-tencent
["GET
