SEOUL, July 21 (Reuters) – Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday it will set up \u200ca robotics division reporting directly to the chief \u200cexecutive to accelerate development and commercialisation in the field and establish robotics as \u200ba growth engine. <\/p>\n
The South Korean conglomerate said the RX, or “Robotics eXperience”, division will oversee its mid-to-long-term robotics strategy, core technology development and business execution, while expanding research capabilities at home and \u200coverseas. <\/p>\n
Executive Vice President \u2060Lee Dongkun will head the Robotics Strategy Team, Samsung said in a statement. Lee previously led \u2060robotics strategy at Hyundai Motor Group, including the direction of Boston Dynamics. <\/p>\n
Samsung also said it plans to establish robotics research hubs \u200bin the \u200bU.S., China and Japan, where \u200brobotics technology is advancing \u200crapidly, to strengthen competitiveness by leveraging local ecosystems and expertise. <\/p>\n
The development builds on a broader robotics push. During its January earnings conference call, Samsung said it aimed to achieve “tangible” results in its humanoid robotics business this year. <\/p>\n
In April, Samsung said \u200cit would consider investment and acquisitions \u200bwhere necessary to accelerate development and \u200bcommercialisation in robotics, while \u200bcombining partnering local companies for technology development. <\/p>\n
Samsung also \u200csaid advances in technology such \u200bas physical AI \u200bwas making robotics businesses increasingly viable. It said it planned to develop humanoid robots to improve both productivity \u200band user experience, \u200cinitially for deployment at manufacturing sites before expanding into \u200bhome and retail sectors. <\/p>\n
