Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group and each institution plan to cooperate closely to build a new school building for Yeomyung School and ensure its stable operation.

Yeomyung School, which opened in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, in 2004, is an alternative school that gained recognition for accredited middle and high school education in 2010. It had needed improvements to its education environment, including a lack of school land and space. Since 2023, it had continued operations after receiving temporary use permission for the site of the closed Yeomgang Elementary School, but the permit expires in February 2027, leaving the school needing to secure other premises.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will provide free of charge the site of the closed Yeomgang Elementary School in Gangseo-gu, which Yeomyung School currently uses temporarily, for the construction of a new school. The Ministry of Unification will support related administrative and legislative improvements. Yeomyung School will oversee the construction and operation of the school and focus on creating a stable education environment.

Hyundai Motor Group will sponsor a construction fund for the new school building and help students smoothly enter society through customized education support extending from their time as students to after graduation. As a first step, it will deploy 20 college student mentors from “H-Jump School” to improve enrolled students’ basic learning abilities. They will provide tailored mentoring by level in subjects such as English, mathematics, and science twice a week.

In addition, the group will establish vocational education courses for realistic career exploration. It will carry out a winter vacation career exploration program and customized special lectures in connection with the education office, and will build a community with senior Yeomyung School graduates to help form emotional bonds.

Along with this, the group will also develop a scholarship program for students who advance to university after graduation. In connection with the “Heroes Scholarship,” a future talent development scholarship program of the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation, it will support outstanding graduates with university tuition and living expenses so they can continue their studies without financial burden.

“The newly created education space will become a cradle of hope where students embrace bigger dreams and design their futures,” said Sung Kim, president of Hyundai Motor Group. “We will continue to work closely with relevant sectors to build an inclusive society where all children can realize their potential.”

A view of Hyundai Motor and Kia’s Yangjae headquarters.
