In response to complaints about the LG bloatware, Microsoft\u2019s Windows chief, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/pavandavuluri\/status\/2079982812699193690\" rel=\"nofollow\">Pavan Davuluri, said<\/a> that LG has agreed to immediately disable the McAfee pop-up from its LG Monitor App Installer, and pledged that Microsoft will \u201ckeep improving here with our ecosystem partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">This crackdown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LGOLED\/comments\/1ukmub4\/how_dare_you_install_your_installer_app_without\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">follows backlash<\/a> about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/967983\/lg-monitors-mcafee-adware-gamers-nexus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">large pop-up ads for McAfee antivirus<\/a> and LG\u2019s own apps appearing on Windows 11 PCs after being connected to LG monitors. Upon connection, a Windows driver update was silently installing LG driver updates and the LG Monitor App Installer without explicit permission from the user \u2014 with reports about the auto-installing issue <a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/discussions\/windows11\/why-the-lg-monitor-app-installed-without-my-notice\/4304003\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dating back to 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">LG defended its behavior in a long, uncredited statement sent to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.windowslatest.com\/2026\/07\/23\/microsoft-is-cracking-down-on-windows-11-bloatware-ads-forces-lg-to-pull-mcafee-popup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Windows Latest<\/a> that seems to miss the point entirely:<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1lkuyz88 _19wv7tc1\">\u201cLG Electronics reiterates that McAfee is not installed automatically and is never installed without the user\u2019s explicit consent. The LG Monitor App Installer is distributed through Microsoft\u2019s official Windows distribution process, which included McAfee as an option. McAfee will be installed only if a user actively chooses to proceed with the installation and provides consent. Under no circumstances is McAfee installed automatically or without user authorization. The LG Monitor App Installer does not access, collect, or transmit any customer personal data.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">LG isn\u2019t the only company that pushes automatic installation features, with The Verge\u2019s Tom Warren previously noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/@tomwarrenuk\/post\/DDeTUEJuLy4?xmt=AQG0mazpkNCdoWnYbZFw-v98Wrcmj268SwlDT8Md0eAKIg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dell had similarly auto-installed<\/a> the Alienware Command Center app on Windows when connected to Alienware monitors.
