Based on the report, Samsung apparently intends to counter Apple’s 20 year iPhone anniversary with a flood of new Galaxy smartphone-flagships, including a very exciting addition to its foldable-lineup.

What used to be two new foldables per year has already become three this year: The Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra were joined for the first time by a new foldable form factor, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which will likely be countered by the iPhone Ultra starting in September. We don’t know whether Apple’s upcoming 20 year iPhone anniversary in 2027 is the reason behind Samsung’s adapted flagship strategy, but obviously that would make some sense.

According to an industry report from South Korea, Samsung’s management has developed a 4+4 flagship smartphone strategy for next year. In addition to the four Galaxy S27 models in the first half of the year (Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Ultra, and, for the first time, a Galaxy S27 Pro), four foldables are set to join the Galaxy universe in the second half of the year, which apparently also includes a successor to the first Galaxy Z TriFold. According to internal information from Samsung Electronics shared with its partners, the next Samsung Tri-Fold is set to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold9, Galaxy Z Fold9 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip9—likely in July 2027.

Specs for the Galaxy Z TriFold2 haven’t been leaked yet, but the display size is unlikely to change much and will likely remain at 9.96 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Earlier rumors also pointed to a significantly slimmer design where all three sections of the chassis will have approximately the same thickness. It is currently unclear whether the low production volume for Samsung’s first Trifoldable will increase substantially next year. However, according to an industry insider interviewed, this is to be expected.

As a young tech enthusiast with a history involving assembling and overclocking projects, I ended up working as a projectionist with good old 35-mm films before I entered the computer world at a professional level.
