The eldest son of Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte, Grand Duke Henri started his reign in 2000, after his own father abdicated following a 36-year on the throne.
Grand Duke Henri’s life has been one of royal privilege and extraordinary glamour, with international visits and evenings spent with presidents and princesses. Yet at the heart of it all has been the unwavering support of his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, whom he married in 1981.
The couple share five children together, Guillaume, Princess Alexandra, Prince Louis, Prince Félix and Prince Sébastien.
Among those toasting to Henri today will be Grand Duke Guillaume and his wife Grand Duchess Stephanie, and their two children, Prince Charles and Prince François. Charles will one day succeed his father on the throne.
To mark the occasion, Tatler presents Henri’s life in 62 pictures…
