The Government of Luxembourg has increased the funding it allocates to enable Luxembourg to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest for the next three years.
The Government of Luxembourg has agreed to allocate 2 million Euros per year from 2027 to 2029 to enable the Grand Duchy to continue to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. The budget has grown by over 300,000 Euros per year to “to further strengthen the Eurovision ecosystem, which is now firmly established in the country, and to enable broader participation by national partners”
Speaking to Luxembourger Wort, RTL explained that higher levels of funding are required, due to the “increased requirements” associated with organising its national selection show, the Luxembourg Song Contest. The Head of Delegation explained:
In recent years, production requirements, technical implementation and expectations regarding the quality of the events have risen in particular. Added to this are higher costs for stage production, international promotion, travel, accommodation and support for the delegation.
With the adjusted budget, RTL can continue to organise the LSC and Luxembourg’s participation in the ESC to a standard that meets the competition’s international standards.
Around 70% of the budget allocated by the Luxembourg Government goes towards the organisation and production of the Luxembourg Song Contest. Luxembourg is in a unique position of having its entire participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, including its selection, funded via the Government, who view the competition as a platform to promote the country.
The Luxembourgish entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will be selected through the fourth edition of the Luxembourg Song Contest, which will be held on January 30 in Rockhal in Esch. Details regarding the organisation of the contest and the call for applications will be revealed in July.
Eva Marija represented Luxembourg at Eurovision 2026 with “Mother Nature”. She finished 12th in Semi-Final Two, 62 points away from qualifying for the final. This is the first time that Luxembourg has failed to qualify for the final since their return to the contest in 2023.

Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest+
Luxembourg was one of seven countries to take part in the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Luxembourg participated in the contest 37 times before withdrawing from the contest after 1993. During these 37 years, they won the contest five times. The last of these victories came in 1983. Luxembourg came close to returning to the contest in 2004, but opted against it due to the financial cost of participating. They eventually returned in 2024, after an absence of 31 years.
