General Assembly in New York in coordination with several other countries, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/france-palestine-statehood-emmanuel-macron-middle-east-war-gaza\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/belgium-to-recognize-palestine-sanction-israel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Belgium<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes after months of <a href=\"https:\/\/today.rtl.lu\/news\/luxembourg\/a\/2311888.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">hesitation<\/a> by Luxembourg\u2019s government and amid growing calls by European leaders for an end to Israel\u2019s war in Gaza, launched after the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. Local health officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/world\/palestinian-death-toll-in-gaza-passes-64000-officials-say-after-ceasefire-talks-break-down\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">say over 60,000<\/a> Palestinians have died in the war. European Commission Executive Vice President Teresa Ribera <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-commission-teresa-ribera-says-israels-war-gaza-genocide\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has called Israel\u2019s actions<\/a> in Gaza genocide.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/urusla-von-der-leyen-state-of-the-union-punish-israel-extremist-ministers-pause-payments\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> the EU executive would take a harder stance toward Israel over the war, pausing payments to the country and sanctioning what she called \u201cextremist ministers\u201d and violent settlers.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday, the U.N.
