A senior British diplomat points to the scenario keeping European security officials focused, while insisting Moscow should understand the risks involved.

This was stated by British Ambassador Neil Crompton in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

British Ambassador Neil Crompton believes that Russia would make a serious miscalculation if it dared to launch a direct attack on any NATO member state. According to him, the Alliance has demonstrated a firm readiness to defend every member country.

In an interview, the diplomat described potential Russian aggression against a NATO country, particularly in the Baltic region, as one of the scenarios currently being actively discussed.

My personal view is that NATO’s determination to defend its member states is strong, and this would be a miscalculation on Russia’s part. But of course, we should not be naive, and we must not only prepare for such contingencies but also prevent them. So I believe NATO has a sound, coordinated plan aimed precisely at doing that.

NATO Is Preparing for Possible Threats from Russia

Neil Crompton stressed that the security situation remains challenging. He added that Ukraine understands particularly well the challenges that arise in confronting Russia.

US intelligence believes that Vladimir Putin may attempt to test NATO’s resolve over the next few years by carrying out a limited attack on one of its allied states. Against the backdrop of such assessments, Alliance countries are strengthening their defense planning and deterrence measures.
