Russia has launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, posing a potential threat to Polish territory. The Poland Government Centre for Security (RCB) issued a warning to residents of the Lublin and Subcarpathian voivodeships on X in the early hours of Tuesday morning (October 13). It stated that the situation is being monitored amid fears of World War Three.
The RCB said: “ATTENTION! Russian air attack on Ukrainian territory. The situation is being monitored. In the airspace of the Republic of Poland, Polish aviation is operating. Expect further communications. The RCB Alert has been sent to recipients in the Subcarpathian and Lublin voivodeships.”
The latest attack has sparked fears of a wider conflict as Article 5 of NATO states that “an attack on one is an attack on all”. If Russia, a hostile power, attacks a NATO member, such as Poland, then Article 5 is activated and all member states, including superpowers such as the USA, are committed to responding.
Russia launched a wave of missile and air strikes across Ukraine overnight and into this morning, sparking fears on Polish territory. The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia attacked using five ballistic missiles, nine guided drones, and 108 Shahed-type strike UAVs and decoys.
As reported by the Kyiv Post, two women were killed in the city while at least 12 people were left injured. Multiple districts were targeted by missile and drone strikes which damaged key transport infrastructure and warehouses.
