A surprise confirmation from NATO signals immediate air defense support for Ukraine, while allied ministers prepare to discuss further weapon and logistics aid in Brussels.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte assured that the critically important flow of missiles for Patriot systems is arriving in Ukraine right now.
The statement came ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers from alliance member countries, scheduled for June 18.
The Secretary-General said that during the meeting with the President of Ukraine they discussed the front-line situation and Kyiv’s support.
“Obviously, Ukraine is handling things very well. We are seeing reports of Russian losses of around 30,000 to 35,000 per month right now, which is truly incredible.”

The two sides discussed how allies can help Ukraine obtain weapons and air defense systems to bolster the defense of cities and protect the country’s critical infrastructure.

The Secretary-General also commented on the EU’s attempts to establish contact with the Kremlin, but stressed that NATO has nothing to do with it.
“Obviously, this discussion is ongoing in the EU. I fully respect that, I understand why it continues, but it is purely a European discussion in which NATO is not involved.”

Later that day, the Secretary-General announced the planned meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, in which President Zelensky will participate.
In Brussels on Thursday, defense ministers from NATO member countries will meet.
Against the backdrop of these developments, Patriot deliveries remain a focus for the Allies, as they work to strengthen Ukraine’s defense and stabilize the region.
