The US is exploring deployment of nuclear weapons in additional NATO countries, potentially allowing dual-capable aircraft in Baltic and Eastern European states, amid Russia’s warnings about NATO activity near its borders.

US authorities are considering the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in additional European NATO countries. This would allow the deployment of dual-capable aircraft capable of delivering nuclear strikes, the Financial Times reported, citing its own sources.

According to the publication, American officials are discussing the deployment of nuclear weapons not only in six European countries where nuclear-capable bombers are already stationed, but also in other European states. This step could potentially allow a greater number of countries to host American dual-capable aircraft.

Sources indicate that Baltic states and countries on NATO’s eastern flank, including Poland, have shown interest in hosting such aircraft. The highest interest comes from states closest to Russian borders.

In recent years, Moscow has repeatedly pointed to NATO’s unprecedented activity along its western borders. NATO expands its initiatives, describing them as «deterring Russian aggression.” The Kremlin emphasized that Russia does not threaten anyone, but cannot ignore alliance actions that could pose a threat to its interests.
