This morning, Friday, August 14, an unidentified drone entered Latvian territory. Shortly after the incident, the drone was shot down, according to the Latvian military.<\/p>\n
At approximately 4:09 a.m., the country”s armed forces warned Latvians that an air threat had been declared in the municipalities of Aug\u0161daugava, Prei\u013ci, R\u0113zekne, and Balvi.<\/p>\n
“Air threat in the airspace of Aug\u0161daugava, Prei\u013ci, R\u0113zekne, and Balvi municipalities. Take action! We inform you that there is a threat in Latvia’s airspace. Go indoors, follow the two-wall principle! Follow official announcements,” the post<\/a> said.<\/p>\n About half an hour later, the Latvian military said that the threat was no longer present. The hostile drone was shot down by NATO aircraft.<\/p>\n “We inform you that the threat in the airspace has ended. Allied fighter jets have successfully shot down the unmanned aerial vehicle that entered the airspace,” the military<\/a> said, adding that additional information would be published on its social media accounts.<\/p>\n What else is known<\/p>\n On June 8, NATO fighter jets shot down an unidentified drone that violated Latvian airspace for the first time. At the time, it was the first such incident<\/a>.<\/p>\n
