NATO Baltic Air Patrol fighter jets were activated in response, the armed forces said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"9\" articletitle=\"NATO Scrambles Eurofighters, F-16s After Drone Enters Latvian Airspace\">The Latvian military said it and NATO allies were continuously monitoring the country\u2019s airspace to enable an immediate response to potential threats. It also said Latvia had strengthened air defense capabilities along its eastern border by deploying additional units.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Russian aggression&#8217; blamed<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"11\" articletitle=\"NATO Scrambles Eurofighters, F-16s After Drone Enters Latvian Airspace\">In a later update, Latvia\u2019s National Armed Forces said NATO Baltic Air Patrol fighters had successfully shot down a foreign drone in Latvian airspace over Balvi.
