{"id":10921,"date":"2026-08-16T16:12:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T16:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/nato\/10921\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T16:12:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T16:12:08","slug":"estonias-foreign-minister-says-russias-war-against-ukraine-will-keep-nato-at-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/nato\/10921\/","title":{"rendered":"Estonia&#8217;s foreign minister says Russia&#8217;s war against Ukraine will keep NATO at threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drone shootdown, threats to Alliance<\/p>\n<p>The foreign minister said the overnight incident was another confirmation of NATO&#8217;s ability to respond effectively to threats.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Overnight, NATO once again demonstrated its readiness and ability to defend every inch of Allied territory, as a drone was successfully shot down over Romania,&#8221; Tsahkna noted.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, he stressed that the threat to NATO countries will not disappear until Russia ends its military actions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the same time, the threat to NATO will persist as long as Russia continues its war of aggression against Ukraine,&#8221; the diplomat added.<\/p>\n<p>Call to step up support for Ukraine<\/p>\n<p>According to the head of Estonia&#8217;s foreign ministry, partners must continue to provide comprehensive assistance to Kyiv and increase pressure on Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>Tsahkna stressed the need to maintain strong military, economic and political support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, this, together with increased pressure on Russia, is the only path to ending the war and achieving a just and lasting peace.<\/p>\n<p>Drone incidents in Romania<\/p>\n<p>As previously reported, Russian air targets have repeatedly entered Romanian airspace, and their debris has fallen on Romanian territory, particularly during massive attacks on Ukrainian Danube ports.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, NATO Air Forces reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/newsukraine.rbc.ua\/news\/romania-shoots-down-russian-drone-over-its-1786857100.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a Spanish F-18 fighter jet shot down a Russian drone over Romania<\/a>. The incident was one of a series of airspace infringements involving an allied country this year.<\/p>\n<p>Later, NATO operation headquarters provided additional details about the incident. In particular, <a href=\"https:\/\/newsukraine.rbc.ua\/news\/nato-points-to-likely-origin-of-drone-downed-1786888130.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Alliance identified the likely origin of the downed UAV<\/a>, saying the drone entered Romanian airspace from Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>Romania&#8217;s border areas also recently faced another threat. In particular, <a href=\"https:\/\/newsukraine.rbc.ua\/news\/romania-finds-debris-from-fourth-drone-in-1786737796.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Romania found fragments of a fourth drone in a single day<\/a>.
