The FTSE 100 opened broadly unchanged at 10,816.33, down 0.002 per cent from its previous close, as investors awaited tougher US sanctions on Iran and monitored weakness across Asian technology shares. The Euronext 100 slipped 0.01 per cent to 1,938.70, while Germany’s DAX fell 0.26 per cent to 26,067.65. Overnight in the US, the Nasdaq closed higher at 26,180.46 and the S&P 500 advanced to 7,674.37, with attention now turning towards Nvidia earnings and Federal Reserve commentary from Jackson Hole. <\/p>\n

Commodity markets reflected continued uncertainty around the US-Iran conflict, with Brent crude falling as investors awaited details of further US sanctions despite ongoing supply disruption through the Strait of Hormuz. Copper and natural gas also moved lower, while gold gained. Bitcoin unchanged against sterling.
