{"id":1280,"date":"2026-06-09T15:43:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T15:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/nato\/1280\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T15:43:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T15:43:08","slug":"russia-holds-naval-drills-in-baltic-sea-during-major-nato-exercises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/nato\/1280\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia Holds Naval Drills in Baltic Sea During Major NATO Exercises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MOSCOW, June 9 (Reuters)\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Russia\u2019s navy has conducted military drills in the\u00a0Baltic\u00a0Sea, practicing unguided missile launches, bombing runs and missile strikes, it said, as major U.S.-NATO exercises also took place in the region, the Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reutersconnect.com\/all?search=all%3AL8N42A0X3&amp;linkedFromStory=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">NATO BALTOPS naval exercise<\/a>, which began on June 4 and runs until June 20, are the biggest war games in the\u00a0Baltic\u00a0Sea this year, bringing together some 20 vessels from 15 nations with around 6,000 personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Russia carried out its own drills from June 8\u20139 in and near its Kaliningrad exclave, involving around 10 military aircraft, including fighter jets and bombers, as well as two small missile ships, according to Interfax.<\/p>\n<p>Kaliningrad, located on the\u00a0Baltic\u00a0coast between NATO members Lithuania and Poland, has a population of around 1 million.
