A key allied command, based in <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Netherlands\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/netherlands\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Netherlands<\/a>, told <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Russia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/russia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russia<\/a> its new nuclear-powered submarines are being tracked and monitored \u201cclosely\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Royal Navy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/royal-navy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Navy<\/a> is increasingly being deployed to track Russian warships \u2014 activations to monitor Russian activity are up by 25% across the first eight months of the year compared to 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The post from JFCBS read: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/russia\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russia<\/a> is expanding and modernising its submarine force, with the Kola Peninsula remaining a key hub for the Northern Fleet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong them: new-generation nuclear-powered SSGNs [nuclear-powered guided missile submarines], bringing serious long-range strike and sea-denial capabilities into the High North.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey may be invisible beneath the waves. But not for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see them, we watch the developments closely and yes, we take these developments seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russia launched its first nuclear-powered Khabarovsk-class submarine, designed to carry Poseidon nuclear torpedoes, last month.<\/p>\n<p>Other submarines and capabilities remain under construction.<\/p>\n<p>JFCBS is one of NATO\u2019s three operational-level Joint Force Commands, focused on operations in eastern and central Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In another post, it referenced a series of incidents across the region linked, or suspected to be linked, to Russia.<\/p>\n<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\">It said: \u201cWhat is going on? Barely a day goes by without another incident\u2026 Europe needs to be ready. And that is why NATO 3.0 matters more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tensions between Russia and NATO have soared in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>This week, <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Germany\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/germany\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Germany<\/a> blamed Russia for an attack at Leipzig\/Halle Airport in August involving an explosive-packed drone.
