The NATO summit, scheduled for July 7\u20138 in Ankara, Turkey, is set to be a major milestone in shaping the Alliance\u2019s future security architecture.<\/p>\n
After the cabinet meeting, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, addressed the nation with an assessment of how Turkey\u2019s position within NATO and regional events influence expectations for the upcoming summit in Ankara.<\/p>\n
Turkey\u2019s Role in the Alliance\u2019s Future Security Architecture<\/p>\n
\u201cWe see that Turkey\u2019s position within NATO and the events taking place in our region heighten interest and expectations for the Ankara summit. Aware of these expectations, we continue to work so that this summit becomes a milestone that will define the future security architecture of the Alliance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president stressed that since joining NATO in 1952, Turkey has remained one of the Alliance\u2019s key members and actively participates in NATO peacekeeping missions in various regions around the world.<\/p>\n
In addition, the Turkish leader outlined the schedule of upcoming international events: on June 28\u201329 in Istanbul, the Parliamentary NATO Summit will take place, and in the autumn in Ankara the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States is planned. Turkey will also host the 77th International Astronautical Congress and the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Antalya.<\/p>\n
According to official sources, securing the summit will require about 70,000 security personnel.<\/p>\n
