U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday said the Trump administration has no intention of withdrawing from NATO, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to the alliance.<\/p>\n

At the same time, he stressed the administration will press for what he called “significant changes”, urging member states to boost defense spending as part of a broader push for a rebalanced transatlantic security partnership.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a congressional hearing, Rubio said U.S. President Donald Trump plans to attend the NATO leaders’ summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara, T\u00fcrkiye, where he will outline Washington’s position on NATO reform.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the U.S. European Command said in a social media post on Wednesday that Pentagon officials have informed allies that Washington will adjust its contributions to NATO forces in accordance with burden-sharing requirements set out in the 2026 National Defense Strategy and the Defense Department’s vision for “NATO 3.0.”<\/p>\n

NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander of U.S. European Command Gen. Alexus Grynkewich said Washington has made clear that the alliance has become overly dependent on U.S. military forces, a situation that must change.<\/p>\n

He said the planned adjustments are intended to ensure that NATO no longer relies excessively on U.S. capabilities. Given the possibility of simultaneous conflicts emerging in multiple theaters, such changes are necessary, he added.<\/p>\n

At a NATO defense ministers’ meeting held in Brussels, Belgium, in February this year, U.S. Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby said Washington seeks to advance “NATO 3.0” \u2013 an alliance built on “partnership, not dependency.”<\/p>\n

As a new gesture of China’s further opening-up of its telecom sector, 166 foreign-funded enterprises have been approved of pilot operations in value-added telecom services, the second batch since February 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

These enterprises can legally provide value-added telecom services throughout China, including internet data center services, internet access services, and information services.<\/p>\n

Building on existing policies including China’s WTO commitments, pilot free trade zone regulations and policies for further opening up of the service sector, the ministry has proactively aligned with high-standard international economic and trade rules, and launched trials in Beijing, Shanghai, Hainan and Shenzhen to remove the foreign equity caps on value-added telecom services such as internet data centers.<\/p>\n

More than 3,100 foreign-invested telecom enterprises operate across China. These enterprises will provide Chinese consumers with more diversified telecom services and products, further fostering an open and dynamic market ecosystem, the ministry said.<\/p>\n

More policies will be introduced to promote the opening up of the telecom sector and encourage eligible foreign-funded enterprises to enter China’s telecom market, said the ministry.<\/p>\n
