Vladimir Putin could soon orchestrate a provocation of NATO as early as this autumn, in a bid to get a minor \u2018victory\u2019 as troops fail in Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n US<\/a> intelligence reports have raised new concerns that Russia could provoke a NATO nation with an attack this fall, according to the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n Officials initially believed an attack wouldn\u2019t happen because Russia is preoccupied with its war in Ukraine, but Putin isn\u2019t happy with how the war is going.<\/p>\n Lithuania\u2019s defence minister echoed these concerns, saying: \u2018The Kremlin, Putin, needs a new escalation, some kind of new victory, and in this case the Baltic region and Poland<\/a> are the closest targets.\u2019<\/p>\n Just days ago, a drone loaded with explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane in Germany.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n In late July, a Russian cruise missile left a crater 33 feet wide in Nato territory when it landed in\u00a0Poland<\/a>.<\/p>\n The landing site was discovered by Polish authorities alongside scattered debris after reports of an explosion near the south-east village of Tarnawa-Kolonia.<\/p>\n Fighter jets were scrambled, but Poland\u2019s Prime Minister Donald Tusk said there was no immediate danger as the missile fell in an uninhabited area.<\/p>\n And in late 2025, a report from German Intelligence warned of a potential \u2018test attack\u2019 against NATO from Russian forces.<\/p>\n The German Federal Intelligence Service cited preparation from Russia\u2019s government for a \u2018large-scale war\u2019 against NATO as tensions with the West reach a boiling point.<\/p>\n A retired British Army<\/a> general also\u00a0warned the UK might have less than two years to prepare for a war with Russia.<\/a><\/p>\n General Sir Richard Shirreff thinks Russian tanks will \u2018roll across the border into Estonia<\/a> and Latvia\u2019.<\/p>\n Writing for MailOnline, he said: \u2018Within four hours they are approaching the Estonian capital of Tallinn.
