A very large fire is raging at a pallet company in the Oostervaart business park in Lelystad, Netherlands.

Firefighters have deployed in large numbers to prevent the blaze from spreading, NL Times reported.

Emergency services have cordoned off the area because of a risk of explosion. No injuries have been reported.

An NL-Alert was issued, warning local residents to stay away from the massive plumes of black smoke.

The fire brigade arrived at the scene at around 8:45 a.m. and quickly classified the incident as a very large fire, Omroep Flevoland reported. Firefighting teams were deployed from the Utrecht, Gelderland, and Gooi and Vechtstreek security regions.

A reporter at the scene told the broadcaster that three to four companies are located in the building where the fire broke out. The fire was initially reported to have started at the car company Socar, but it was later established that the blaze began at a pallet company located behind it.

Tens of thousands of wooden pallets are reportedly stored at the company. According to the reporter, the building may also contain a storage facility for gas cylinders. Several loud bangs have already been heard.

Firefighters are working to prevent the blaze from spreading to other buildings in the business park. A large-scale water transport operation has been deployed at the scene. A drone team has also been sent in to monitor the situation from above.

The NL-Alert is warning local residents to stay out of the smoke, which is spreading very quickly. Omroep Flevoland has received reports of ash falling in parts of Lelystad and Dronten.
