The Head of the Dutch broadcaster Omroep Max has talked down its prospects of taking over responsibility for the Netherlandsā participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Following the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, Omroep Max had stepped forward, expressing an interest in taking over responsibility for participation in the contest should AVROTROS once again rule out competing in the contest in 2027. However, Jan Slagter, Head of Omroep Max, has told AD that he is now more hesitant about his channel taking on the competition. Mr Slagter commented:
āA request is not on the table, but if there were one, we would first have to discuss it internally at Max. Furthermore, the songs performed there nowadays, with all that noise and screaming, donāt really resonate with our target audience. It is more of a show than a genuineĀ songĀ festival.ā
Mr Slagter added that Omroep Max lacks the knowledge and expertise to be able to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, and that his channel lacks the financial resources to be able to invest in the competition. As a result, he hopes that AVROTROS will return to the competition in Burgas in 2027.
AVROTROSĀ withdrewĀ from the 2026 contest due to objections to Israelās participation in the contest. The contest was still aired in the Netherlands with support from NOS and NTR providing commentators.

Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest+
The Netherlands debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has gone on to compete in all but four contests. The Netherlands has won the contest on five occasions; 1957, 1959, 1969, 1975 and most recently 2019. Prior to Duncan Laurenceās victory in Tel Aviv, the Netherlands had been waiting 44 years for their next victory. Duncan Laurence won the contest in Tel Aviv with the song āArcadeā.
